Collection: Chancay

This collection draws inspiration from the fascinating Chancay culture, once inhabitants of the central coast of Peru. Renowned for their prowess in artisanal production, particularly in ceramics, textiles, and doll making, the Chancay people infused profound symbolism into their creations. Distinctively, the dolls crafted by the Chancay were not mere toys but held a sacred purpose – providing companionship to the departed. Each doll symbolized the social role that individuals once played in their culture.

The textiles woven by the Chancay were imbued with both magical and religious significance, serving the purpose of veiling the faces of the deceased. Employing a unique technique known as "Yoque," the embroidery bestowed these textiles with supernatural powers, symbolizing protection for the journey beyond.

This collection seeks to encapsulate the intricate artistry of the Chancay culture, celebrating the dual roles of their creations, the spiritual meaning and artistic excellence.
